Card enhancements and chipboard tutorials.

06 March 2015: card enhancements and chipboard tutorials. Includes links to Freckled Fawn, Hip Kit Club, Jot Magazine, Big City Quiet and Jennifer McGuire.

This week on Radio Friday we’re linking to card enhancements and chipboard tutorials.  We have included a link to a digital photo enhancements, a surprise window card, styled up pocket cards, chipboard pieces tutorial and a pretty grey and pink layout. As always, a reminder about what Radio Friday is about:

Radio Friday is a selection of five links taken from our weekly newsletter PAPERCUT WEEKLY. If these links inspire you, intrigue you, or make you want more, think about signing up to the newsletter (link at the bottom of the post).

Let’s get it started!

ONE. Products aren’t usually featured in Radio Friday, however, these by Big City Quiet definitely appeal to the minimalist in me. Perfect to add to your photos that will sit in your pocket albums, but really, they’re just a nice finishing touch for any photo. (More releases from BCQ at the link as well.)

TWO. Jennifer McGuire creates the most amazing cards and they always have a video with them. This week, our favourite card was the surprise card — it’s a wrapped present all on its own!

THREE. Jot Magazine released their new issue this week and to top it off, they also had a blog post from Leanne Allinson styling up her own pocket page cards for the Back to School season.

FOUR. Hip Kit Club is prolific with their blog posting. Not that we mind. The trouble is its always hard to pick only two layouts to include in our newsletter! This week Amelie Mordret caught our eye with her amazingly pretty and soothingly calming pink and grey layout.

FIVE. Freckled Fawn have a beautiful embellishment kit club called OHDEERME. You’re probably seen it: each kit comes in a beautiful, reusable pouch. Anyway, this week CT member Megan gave us seven ways to add colour to chipboard. I can’t wait to try them!

That’s it for this week, so until next time… Don’t forget: you can sign up to Papercut Weekly at anytime. You’ll automatically start receiving the next one.

Reminder: our new class Stress Free Pockets is open for registration!

Linda Trace, teacher of Stress Free Pockets

Linda Trace, teacher of STRESS FREE POCKETS, showcase her own pocket scrapbooking spread.

Yesterday, our first course of 2015 went live for registrations. That course is STRESS FREE POCKETS, a three-week self-paced course that will guide you through the tips and tricks of pocket scrapbooking, of catching up and staying caught up. Today, we introduce you a bit more teacher, Linda Trace.

Linda Trace, the teacher of STRESS FREE POCKETS, is memory-keeper and life documenter herself. But she understands the stress of keeping a weekly pocket album.

When Papercut Labs was talking to Linda about teaching this course, she couldn’t wait. “Yes! I need to catch up as well,” was the reaction.

So you will not be alone. Linda is also catching-up on her pocket albums and can’t wait to see you in the classroom.

Bright layouts and mesmerising mini-albums. (Radio Friday)

Radio Friday (27 February 2015): bright layouts and mesmerising mini-albums

This week on Radio Friday we’re linking to bright layouts and mesmerising mini-albums.  We have included a link to a Japan travel mini-album, stunningly bright layouts, a beautiful patterned paper backgrounds and extra DIY planner pockets.

ONE. Sharmaine Kruijver is a CT member of Cocoa Daisy, so when she posted her layouts from the February kit…well, you can see the result above. Two more layouts are found at the link.

TWO. Gina Rodgers has a beautiful and unique style of scrapbooking. Lots of white space, lots of ink and paint. It appeals to the minimalist in me. She was asked to to guest design for Studio Fourteen40.

THREE. This week is heavy on the Cocoa Daisy. For good reason, though. They have a tutorial up on their blog for making your own planner pockets. A must if it carries around your life.

FOUR. Geralyn Sy went to Japan in 2012. She’s now found the perfect way to document that trip: a 6×8 travel mini-album. I’m particularly loving the 2in pocket title page.

FIVE. Last, but not least, Elle’s Studio CT Member Melissa Mann created an awesome quilty background / feature for a travel layout. The sciences and maths side of my brain is pleased with this layout.

That’s it for this week, so until next time… Don’t forget: you can sign up to Papercut Weekly at anytime. You’ll automatically start receiving the next one.

Also a note: on Sunday, you can start signing up for our new class Stress Free Pockets!

Creative Photos and Longform Journalling. (Radio Friday)

20 February 2015: this week on Radio Friday, creative photos and longform journalling.

This week on Radio Friday we’re linking to creative photos and longform journalling. We’ve included links to cards, interviews with loved ones, layouts featuring long stories, digital scrapbooking and intriguing gift wrapping.

ONE. Absolutely love this type of wrapping that Kim Jeffress has created for Valentine’s Day. Simultaneously a ‘from’ tag, while also being interesting and different from everything else out there!

TWO. One of the things I love about digital scrapbooking is how you can creatively use your photos on layouts. Em Stafrace is the master. (I may be a little biased.) They’re not just straight printed photos anymore–they’re pieces of art!

THREE. We featured Lucy Abrams last week, but this week is for the cat lovers out there. (Including myself.)

FOUR. Long stories, long pieces of journalling seems to be making a come back. October Afternoon’s CT posted two beautiful layouts this week showing just how journalling can be a gorgeous feature on layouts–not something you need to hide.

FIVE. We all want to capture the here and now. Why don’t you try to interview the people around you and include it on your page or in your pockets?

That’s it for this week, so until next time… Don’t forget: you can sign up to Papercut Weekly at anytime. You’ll automatically start receiving the next one.

Radio Friday: valentine’s day and creative documentation

13 February 2015: this week's Radio Friday showcases new Prima product, fifty-fifty cards, a Midori Traveler's notebook and a valentine's love note.

It’s that time of the week again! Radio Friday is here! As always:

Radio Friday is a selection of five links taken from our weekly newsletter PAPERCUT WEEKLY. If these links inspire you, intrigue you, or make you want more, think about signing up to the newsletter (link at the bottom of the post).

Let’s get it started!

ONE. Hip Kit Club is one of the newest kit clubs on the block, but their creative team is just amazeballs. Kim Jeffress made something really special with the February kit, and we’ve got scrap-envy because of it.

TWO. It’s not a Valentine’s Day week without a Valentine link! Crate Paper CT member, Rebecca Luminarias, created some Valentine Love Notes to give out to her loved ones.

THREE. Louise Nelson is a grungy inspiration. She’s been playing with Prima Marketing’s new micro beads this week, and we absolutely love the effect they create on her layouts!

FOUR. We’ve got another link from Paislee Press this week. (Their posts are just awesome.) Jamaica Edgell was inspired by the Pinterest colour block business cards. She wanted to create hand-made “fifty-fifty” pocket cards that could be used for all sort of purposes: journaling, memorabilia, filler. The sky is the limit!

FIVE. I am in awe of people who are making mini-albums and journals and generally being creatively awesome in their documentation of January. Marie Lottermoser has taken a Midori Traveler’s Notebook and used it as her go-to notebook for January: it has lists, it has plans, it has memories and records moments.  She’s making one for each month of 2015.

BONUS. Not on the above image, but we couldn’t not share this post. Our one and only card teacher, Natalie Elphinstone, has been experimenting with Project Life over the last couple of months. She moved into the full 12×12 size to document her daughter’s first day of prep. The title card alone (shared below) is worth a visit to the blog!

BONUS Radio Friday link: Natalie Elphinstone's 12x12 'First Day of Prep' layout.

American Crafts Shimelle collection: “Tell My Story”

Hi there everyone! It’s Tarrah back with you today to share a recent layout that I created using some cute cut files from here and the gorgeous American Crafts Shimelle range!

Tell My Story: a layout featuring American Crafts Shimelle collection.

I used my Silhouette Cameo die-cutting machine to trace the frames onto white cardstock with the Silhouette sketch pens. (So instead of using the blade to cut them, I popped a sketch pen in its place and it drew them!)

I then took my craft knife to all those X’s and to the middles of the frames to cut those out too.

Tell My Story, Close-up Detail: a layout featuring American Crafts Shimelle collection.

I created this layout to document some of the things I love…things like travel, making pretty things etc etc!

Tell My Story, Close-up Detail: a layout featuring American Crafts Shimelle collection.

I used mostly Shimelle’s first collection on this layout with a few bits and pieces from PinkFresh Studio as well!

Thanks so much for stopping by today! Happy creating!

Radio Friday: digital layouts and a week of stamped cards

06 February 2015: this week's Radio Friday showcases digital layouts, a week of stamped cards, a freebie wallpaper, a sketch and a moleskine mini-album.

ONE. This week over at Paislee Press, Caylee Grey created a moleskine cahier mini-book. I’m absolutely in love with it. The images show each spread of Caylee’s book and I can’t help thinking this is a great way to document on the go.

TWO. Lucy Abrams is a daily go-to source of card-making inspiration. This week, Lucy created a card a day using Clearly Besotted stamps. I would link to each and every card, but Lucy’s already done that with her recap.

THREE. Basic Grey are giving away a desktop wallpaper with a February calendar on it. It’s gorgeous and would probably work on tablets as well. (I haven’t tried that yet though…)

FOUR. If you haven’t heard of Retro Sketches yet, you should probably pop over there now and check out their amazing archive of sketch inspiration. They also announced sketch #151 this week.

FIVE. Last, but not least, Em Stafrace posted on her blog againFinally. I miss Em’s digital inspiration. Lucky for us, she’s opened up her own digital store called The Nifty Pixel last month and it’s an amazing space as well.

That’s it for this week, so until next time… Don’t forget: you can sign up to Papercut Weekly at anytime. You’ll automatically start receiving the next one.

Inspiration: a project life spread

Hi friends, its Jodie here with you today with a Project Life post.

I’m noticing a few 2014 Project Life spreads still being blogged here and there, so I’m in good company in finishing up my Week 40, which takes me to the start of October.

Here’s the left side:

Left Side - project life spread

And the right:

Right Side of Project Life spread.

I’ve used Basic Grey’s J’Adore collection this week, working with the 6×6 paper pad and ephemera pack.

Because I was grieving the sudden loss of our fur baby Daisy, I spent most of the week curled up doing not much at all, which means aside from one photo of Daisy the rest of my spread is about the weekend, which we spent in Sydney on a pre-booked holiday. I still had plenty of photos of Sydney so I had no problems filling up my spread for the week.

Project Life Title Card - 2014, week 40.

I love all the vintage French perfume references in the ephemera pack and some of the patterned papers. For my title card this week I’ve layered two of the ephemera pieces, typewritten the week number and dates in a strip journalling style and stitched them down.

Hidden Project Life Journalling.

I knew that I wanted to include journalling about losing Daisy, but also that I didn’t want it on immediate display, so I created this partial flip pocket so that the reader would need to lift the pocket to read the full story. I trimmed a piece of paper to 3×4″ and cut it in half on the diagonal. I layered an acetate heart from the ephemera pack so that it overlapped the paper, and added a scalloped strip piece and some extra hearts.

Hidden Project Life Journalling, cover flap / flip cover.

When you lift the flip pocket you can see the full story.

Feature photo on Project Life card.

And then on to Sydney. I couldn’t not document the amazing soft shell crab burger from Manly Grill. It’s a bit funky to look at but gosh it was delicious!

Journalling strips on 6x4 Project Life card.

Some more strip journalling detailing the highlights of our weekend away.

Final Project Life card in spread: 2014, week 40.

And a selfie taken in our motel room before going out to dinner one night with the beautiful lights of Darling Harbour in the background. I used the remaining half of the 3×4” paper from my flip pocket to add some interest here, and it created a base for an embellishment cluster at the side of my photo.

Thanks for dropping by the Papercut Labs blog today!
